I was really excited to get back to Germany. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Munich, and I knew that if Berlin were anything close to being like Munich, I was going to have a good time. Also, prices things in Germany are lower than Paris and Amsterdam, and our budget was really going to like being in Germany! :)
When we arrived at the train station, the weather was beautiful, so we decided to walk instead of trying to tackle the metro system straight away. The hotel we were staying in was slightly longer than 3 kilometers from the train. Usually, that distance would be no problem. However, with our large backpacks, it was more of a struggle. We were exhausted and dripping in sweat by the time we arrived. There is one reason I am happy that we walked instead of taking the metro - we saw a bunch of nude people laying around in the park. Apparently it's a part of the culture I was not aware of! Haha! After cleaning up and resting for a bit, we ventured out and found a Mexican restaurant. There are Mexican restaurants in Cairo, but they are just okay. It sure was a nice change of pace to the food we had been eating.
Every day after that first afternoon we arrived, it rained. There were few moments of reprieve, but we made the most of those moments. We went to the Brandenburg Gate, Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe (Holocaust Memorial), site of Hitler's bunker, the Berlin Wall, and the East Side Gallery. While it was raining, we took advantage of the many beer halls/biergartens the city had to offer. The final day we were there there was a lot of rain, thunder, and lightening. We only left the hotel to eat dinner and do a load of laundry before heading to Prague. Sure, we could have gone to museums, but neither of us are really into that. I was, however, able to work on homework and post reviews to TripAdvisor. It was a very productive day, even if we didn't do any exploring.
We are currently on our way to Prague via bus where we will spend five nights. So far, the weather is looking good. Let's hope it stays that way!
By the way, the views between Dresden and Prague are beautiful, especially from the top of a double-decker bus!

Does this hotel look familiar? It's where Michael Jackson hung his child off of porch. |
